Business Ideas Life

Don’t Work For Free

In this blog post I will write about how you should not work for people for free. This article will mainly pertain to freelancers such as musicians, photographers, bloggers, and others. The essential idea is that you should not give away your talents and energies to other people without compensation. There are many businesses and individuals who will try to take advantage of you, if you let them. Don’t be a pawn in someone else’s game.

Don’t work for free

You may have found this article by googling “don’t work for free” or something along those lines. Maybe you have had similar experiences to the ones that I have had. Throughout my life, people have tried to take advantage of me in various ways. As a musician, certain promoters used to often try to get me to play for free in their clubs. Now, as I branch out into freelance writing, I have experienced a similar scenario. People wanting you to do work for them, but when it comes time to pay you, it becomes rather difficult to receive the funds. Let’s go over some reasons why you should not work for free.

Exploitation is wrong

The first reason why you should not work for free is simply because it is morally wrong. People should not feel entitled to use you to build their businesses without paying you. The philosopher Immanuel Kant believed that it is unethical for one human to use another human being as simply a “means to an end”. In other words, you shouldn’t ask people to do things for you without any kind of benefit to themselves whatsoever. This kind of exploitation is actually illegal so do not put up with it as a freelancer. Always stand up for yourself.

People will try to exploit you

People will attempt to exploit you as a freelancer. There are people out there who will try to get you to do work for them for free without paying you. Again, I will repeat; don’t work for free! There are all kinds of unscrupulous individuals out there just waiting to take advantage of you. Individuals who simply “forget” their wallet at home when it comes time to pay at a restaurant. People in business who just neglect to read the part of your email where you ask for payment. These are the kinds of people you should avoid in business and life. If someone other than a charitable organization is expecting you to work for them for free then this is a scam and this person does not respect you or your time.

Stand your ground

Don’t allow these kinds of exploitative and manipulative people get you to do any kind of work for them for free. If the person who is asking you to do work for them refuses to pay you then simply refuse to work for them ever again. I apologize if this blog post comes across in an irritated manner. Let me explain what recently happened to me.

Recently, I was contacted by an individual to write blog posts for their website. When I asked for payment this person simply ignored it and asked me to write another blog post for them. This kind of conduct is infuriating to me and I will probably never work with this person again.

Don’t work for free. Do not allow yourself to be exploited by people. Believe me they will try. If unethical individuals can get away with not paying you, they will. As a freelancer; always make sure you are getting paid. Don’t let exploiters take advantage of you. People will try to use you. Demand to be paid. Don’t let them take advantage of you.

Ideas Life Motivation

Live Your Life The Way You Want To

As far as we know, we only get this one life to live. We should live our lives the way we want to live them. For some of us, most of our lives are spent doing things we do not actually want to do. Many of us feel like we are forced to work in jobs we dislike, in order to put food on our table and have a roof over our heads. What if there was a way to do what you really wanted to do and still make a living?

Living Life on Your Terms

You should start trying to live life on your terms. We see other people around us doing it. Authors, musicians, film directors, celebrities, mostly seem to be living a life they actually enjoy. Some making millions of dollars while they are at it. Engaging in work they are passionate about. Why can’t this be you or I? The key is to taking action towards the goal of enjoying your life by doing something you are passionate about for a living. Many of us have had these dreams in the past, maybe we wanted to be musicians, actors, or comedians, but we gave it up. We need to rekindle our dreams.

Negative People

If you have a dream to do something extraordinary, people around you may try to burst your bubble. Imagine you have a goal to write a great novel that will be read by millions of people all around the world. You will most likely have at least someone discouraging the idea. There will usually be someone there to try and bring you down. Do not listen to these kinds of people. They likely wish that they had the same ambition as you. It may be best to keep certain ambitions to yourself.

Take Control of Your Life

You need to be in control of your life. You need to be a leader, not a follower. Do not spend all day consuming content from other people in order to help you succeed. Do not procrastinate. This is real life, not an assignment in school. Billions of people around the world are working just as hard as you in order to succeed. You will need to step up your game if you want to succeed on your own terms. Being self-employed is not easy.

Being Your Own Boss

If you want to have true freedom in life you will need to be your own boss. You will need to create value for other people but you have to do it under your own personal name. If you work for a company there is nothing wrong with that, but you will create value under their name and brand, and not as much under yours. If you want to be your own boss you need to work for yourself and build your name in the community. You need to create intellectual property. If you are a writer, you need to write a book. A photographer should be taking thousands of photos, a musician should be writing hundreds of songs.

Many of the richest people in the world became that way by starting companies as founders or co-founders. Individuals such as Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates are among these people. If they had not started their own companies we would not have these large, wealth generating businesses that we have today. It pays to be your own boss.

It is not always possible to be your own boss if you are working a job but you can still try to find time to work on a side hustle business. It may end up being a full time self-employed job in a matter of time. Just never give up that entrepreneurial spirit to try to create a new company of your own. Remember, jobs can come and go, they can fire you. No one can fire a self-employed writer. No one can fire a freelance photographer. You might lose a particular gig here and there but no one can stop you from practicing your craft. Think about it.

Thank you for reading this blog and I hope I helped inspire you to life your live more on your terms. Have a great day.

How To Life Time Management

The Power of Planning Your Day

In this article I am going to write about a new time management strategy I am implementing starting today. The idea is that I am going to specifically plan out my day the night before so I have an exact agenda of what I want to accomplish that day. This way, less time is wasted wondering what I should be working on. You may already implement a strategy such as this. This article is for people who are interested in the benefits of such an approach.

The basic idea is to write out or enter into your smartphone exactly what you want to be doing tomorrow. For example, from 9:30 – 10:00 AM I will work on a blog post. From 10:00 – 11:00 I will work on a song. From 11:00 – 12:00 I will work on a YouTube video. Next, I will take a break for lunch, from 12:00-1:00 PM. After that, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, I will work on photography. You get the idea.

This way you always know ahead of time exactly what it is you’re supposed to be working on at that time. This is a technique for people who are busy but still have the ambition to do a large amount of activities.

Why plan out your day?

The reason I have started implementing this method is because it feels that I am wasting too much time doing things which are not productive. Instead of writing a blog post, I will be scrolling aimlessly through Twitter. Instead of working on music, sometimes I will get stuck just watching the news for hours. It’s good to ration some time for news consumption and social media, but when it takes over too much of your time it can be counterproductive.

Another lesson to be learned here is that if you find yourself doing too much of the same thing for too long, you’re probably doing something wrong. What I mean by that is, if you’re sitting and playing video games until from dusk until dawn, that’s not healthy. Try doing some other activities. A better day might have one hour of video games, one hour of exercise, one hour of reading, one hour of writing, one hour of doing housework, etc.

Why do so much in a day?

It’s a good idea to do a lot of different things in a day. It prevents you from being bored and it also increases your chances of success. Imagine if you spent years working on a book but never told anyone about it. You could have a masterpiece but it might be lost. I used to be very anti social media. Recently, I realized that you kind of need to engage on social media. Most other musicians and artists are doing so and if you do not do it then you may be left behind or forgotten about. However, do not spend so much time on social media that you neglect your art.

My main point is this. Do not do just one kind of activity in a day and think that’s all you have to do. Try to do many different things. If you are a musician, do a Podcast. If you are an artist, start a YouTube channel. Nowadays we need to try different things to get our message across. Don’t be forgotten about. Spend your time wisely.

Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
